Hands-On History Open House

  • 112 Perkins Street Castine, ME 04421 United States (map)

Get your hands on some fun!

It’s history and culture you can see, hear, smell, touch, and taste. During our Hands-On History Open House, try your hand at shaping wood with traditional tools, feel the heat of the blacksmith’s fire, immerse yourself in 18th century domestic life, and more!

Interactive activities and demonstrations will by offered by folks sharing their talents in pottery, leather work, baking, wood working, and blacksmithing. Youth visitors can craft their own toy boat using traditional hand tools in the wood shop and participate in our third annual dinosaur egg hunt. 🦖

In an exciting addition to this year’s festivities, the Maine Seacoast Mission will host a floating open house at the Castine town dock aboard their 74-foot flagship vessel, the Sunbeam. 🛥️

Following the Open House, our Hands-On History Days will continue each Wednesday and Sunday afternoon in July and August. Admission is always FREE with donations greatly appreciated.

Hands-On History at the Wilson Museum is made possible through the generous support of Camden National Bank.
