“The stamp on this ‘comb’ is called a Private Die Proprietary revenue stamp, often referred to by stamp collectors as a ‘Match & Medicine’ stamp. The Star Match Company’s stamps were issued between May 4, 1867 and March 15, 1883. As of July 1, 1883, revenue tax stamps were no longer required on matches.” [Bruce Baryla].
