Treasures of the Past
July 2003

Photo
The second half of the 19th century saw the advent of the children’s magazine as several of the publishing houses that printed and sold books for children produced monthly or bi-monthly magazines with serialized stories that always ended just as the hero or heroine was about to encounter a dangerous opponent. Wide-eyed children waited breathless with anticipation for the mailman to deliver the next installment. One of the most famous of these was St. Nicholas magazine.
