The Castine Cemetery Association was incorporated, February 19, 1955, with nine directors: Marjorie Babcock, secretary, Frederick Wardwell, Donald Hutchins, Lorna Clements, Albert Foye, Joseph Devereux, William MacKaye, Arthur Thombs, and Helen Small.

Its general purpose shall be the acquisition by gift, purchase, construction or otherwise, and the holding, owning, constructing, operating and maintaining of cemeteries, mausoleums, vaults, chapels and other necessary buildings and improvement for the burial, cremation and care of the remains of the dead, and in connection therewith to do all other things necessary and incident to laying out, caring for, cultivating, improving and ornamenting such cemeteries and places of burial and cremation. The corporation shall have the power to acquire by purchase, gift, grant or devise, and hold, use or convey any real or personal property whatever and may lease, mortgage or the same in any manner deemed most conducive to the carrying out of the purposes of the corporation; provided, however, that the corporation shall not divert any gift, grant or bequest from the specified purpose designated by the donor without his consent.
